Trey Gowdy heard one surprising message that left Democrats in a bad spot

Mar 21, 2025

It is no secret that the Democrat Party is in turmoil.

Their comeback could be more complicated than the party realized.

And Trey Gowdy heard one surprising message that left Democrats in a bad spot.

Byron Donalds says black voters are more conservative than the Democrat Party

President Donald Trump made gains with virtually every demographic in the 2024 Election.

He made inroads with black men under the age of 50 on his way to earning 17% of the black vote, according to exit polling.

That was the best performance by a Republican since President Richard Nixon.

Black voters are the strongest voting bloc in the Democrat Party but that may be changing.

Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) argued that the reason he and other black Republicans are attacked so much in the media is they show black voters that they have an alternative during an appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy.

“As a matter of fact, black people are actually more conservative than the Democrat Party is,” Donalds told host Trey Gowdy. “So when you see a [former Representative] Mia Love or you see a [U.S. Senator] Tim Scott or you see myself and so many others come along, they have to vilify us, they have to demonize us. But we have the ability to push back because our conservatism really is just not for the microphones. This is something that we’ve had to develop over the course of our lives.”

Donalds faced vicious smears from Democrats over his work as a top surrogate from Trump in the election.

Democrats want to take down the best salesmen to black voters

Donalds became a Republican in the Tea Party era and was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2016.

He said the media must demonize him and other black conservatives because they are the most effective messengers to the black community for the GOP.

“This is something that we’ve had to develop over the course of our lives. I got into politics when I was 30,” Donalds explained. “That’s when I realized that I was a conservative and that I had to be able to sell that, not just to myself and convince myself, but to convince people of my community to support me. That’s why that media has to vilify us and destroy us, but it’s not going to work. We are not going to stop.”

Trump doubled his vote with black men in the 2024 Election from 2020.

And there’s evidence to suggest his gains are sticking.

A Cygnal poll from February found that 42% of black men approved of the job that Trump was doing as President.

“In the pre-Trump era, these numbers for a Republican would be aspirational rather than realistic. In the thicket of this new Trump era, these gains among black Americans are noteworthy and certainly beyond a threshold of statistical normality. It boils down to follow-through, which is the most elusive of traits for politicians,” Cygnal vice president Brock McCleary said.

Democrats are in deep trouble if their support among black voters continues to erode.
